1. What is Adr_Book?
--------------------

Adr_Book is a database program that prints mailing labels, an address
booklet, envelopes, and several reports. Adr_Book also functions as
  a phone dialer program.

The mailing labels can be printed to meet postal requirements for best
bulk mail rates: zip code order and postal bar-code. All major Avery
standard and A4 label sizes are supported. Font, point size, color
  selections.

The envelopes can be printed in all popular sizes. The postal bar-code
can be printed. Different fonts, point sizes, and color can be specified
for the return address and delivery address.

The address booklet can be printed in multiple dimensions ranging from
  5.5" x 4.25" to 4.0" x 2.75". This is very convenient for producing
booklets of your business contacts, but is also great for organizations,
clubs, and churches. The address booklet can also be printed in color.

The phone dialing works like most others, but I like to believe it is more
  enjoyable and easier to use.

The design philosophy of Adr_Book was to make it intuitive and fun to use.
I think you will find this to be true. However, don't let this fool you
into believing Adr_Book is a simple and limited product. It has many
features that can be used for more advanced use.

2. What is new since 2.1?
-------------------------
  a. A feature has been added that allows a registered version of Adr_Book
to convert new shareware releases Adr_Book to fully functional
     registered copies.

  b. All of the phone numbers can now be displayed on the Graphical
     Address Book display.

  c. The Email address can now be displayed on the Graphical Address
Book display. Clicking on the Email Address will copy it into the
paste buffer so it can easily be pasted into you Emailer.

3. What is new since 2.2?
-------------------------
  a. A greater number of Avery Label sizes are now supported. Postal
bar-codes can be printed on labels. Font point size selection.
     Font color selection.

  b. A greater number of standard envelope sizes are now supported. Exact
alignment of return address and delivery address can be specifed.
Multiple envelopes can now be printed. Font color selection.

  c. A new report that prints all the information about a single record.

4. INSTALLATION
----------------

Disk Installation: Insert the floppy in drive A (or B) and run SETUP.EXE
  from Windows Program Manager.

Zip File Installation: Unzip the files into a temporary folder. Run
the SETUP.EXE program that is extracted from the Zip file.

5. Registration Information
---------------------------

  a. WHY REGISTER?
  ----------------

The shareware version of Adr_Book is limit to only 25 records in a single
data file. The registered version removes this limitation. A
registered version can hold over 3000 records in an individual data file.

You will be entitled to one year of free upgrades.

You will feel better. (maybe) Actually, We really believe this is true.

You can contact me for any support questions you might have. The best
way is to send Email to the address given below.

  > And most importantly if I can afford to take Alberta out to dinner,
  > she just might not think this was a colossal waste of time.

The above two lines were in the 1.0 release of Adr_Book. It has been a
fairly successful product and I actually have been able to take Alberta
out for a couple of very nice evenings. Thank you for your registrations.

  b. HOW DO I REGISTER?
  ---------------------

  Method 1:
     Postal mail your order to:

     Brown Bear Software
     1231 Redwood Ct.
     Anchorage AK 99508
     USA

With this method we will send you a disk with the latest version of
Adr_Book. Be sure to include your name and address. There is a
registration form that can be printed from the online help of Adr_Book.

  Method 2:
Electronic. This is my favorite method of registration. By this method
we will either email you the latest registered version as an attachment
or point you to a web page that allows downloading of a registered
copy. This has a couple of advantages. First there is no shipping and
handling cost. Second, we are assured that you have received the product.
(I am always concerned about the postal mail. You send a check, I send a
disk, I cash the check, you don't receive the disk. Yuck!)

To initiate this method all you need to do is send me an Email message.
mikeg@alaska.net Some people find me friendly..... at times :-)

  Method 3:
Call Brown Bear Software at 907-278-1231 (This is in Alaska)

  c. WHAT WILL IT COST ME?
  ------------------------

An copy for personal use is $24.95 US. This allows you to have a copy
on a system at home and work.

There is a $2.00 US charge for postal mailing a disk in the US or
Canada. There is a $5.00 US charge for postal mailing a disk to any
     other location in the world.

There is no shipping and handling charge if the software is delivered
     electronically.

We can take Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. A check written
on US funds also works just fine. For credit card orders be sure to
     include number and expiration date.

We am sorry to say that we can not cash Eurocheques, as banks here
in the USA want to charge us $35 for handling.

We make every effort to get all orders shipped as quickly as possible. Oh!
and we would like to hear any comments and suggestions that you might have.

  Thanks

6. Hints
----------------

One feature of Adr_Book not clearly stated anywhere concerns configuration
information associated with a database file. Items such as the COM port to be
used for phone dialing, how labels are to be offset for printing, what fields
should be displayed in the graphical address book, etc. are part of the
configuration stored with each database file.

Almost all items that you set will be stored when you perform a save of your
file. If you make a change to a record in your database, Adr_Book will ask
you when you exit if you want to save this change. This is not true if you
make a configuration change only. Remember, if you make a configuration
item change, and you want it to be a permanent change, SAVE your database
file.
